On the back of his critically acclaimed and award-winning portrayal of iconic Dutch singer songwriter Ramses Shaffy in the TV series RAMSES, Maarten Heijmans quickly rose to fame in his home country The Netherlands. For this role Maarten won the International Emmy Award 2015 for Best Actor, last December in New York. He also won Best Actor at The Netherlands Film Festival 2014 and the series itself won both the international Prix Europe 2014 for Best European Drama as the Silver Nipkow Award for Best Dutch Television Programme of the year.
Maarten is also at home on stage. He worked with internationally acclaimed theatre director Ivo van Hove on MARIA STUART, he played the lead in the family play PUSS IN BOOTS. And most recent in Ibsen House by Theatre Group Amsterdam directed by Simon Stone.
He could be seen on TV in CATCH and TV series DE MAATSCHAP, about a Dutch family of lawyers. On the big screen he could be seen in the features BRASSERIE VALENTINE, AS IF I'M CRAZY and the family film STORM. Next up is the feature WEG VAN JOU, a romantic comedy in the male lead role opposite Katja Herbers.
